Restart the DFS service you stopped in step 1; net start dfs -- This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights. I found the errent entries in the dfs/ntfrs registry keys on the first test server and removed them, now they all allow me to add and remove the root correctly. Sign up now! Once the root DFS was removed I was able to create a new DFS root using the same name as the deleted root. Made sure the machine is part of the example.com domain 2. The Domain Admins group has Full Access to the root drive. Then try adding your server again.  ---  Take a backup first.
