Since doing this, my version in the bin folder has not reverted to 1.16xxx, it stays a 1.19xxx and I don't have any more frustrating errors. If I open up the Sample website from the AjaxControlToolkit and try to compile I get the same error: Error1Could not load file or assembly 'AjaxControlToolkit' or one of its dependencies. Go to References, right click on AjaxControlToolkit and select properties. Grant "Full control" to the ‘users' group. (Modify will also work, thought I didn't try it out) However, it this is a security problem for your environment to grant full control I then right clicked inside that section and selected Choose Items.

This erroronly happens on my local instance... my review here I thought this may help somebody. You simply download the files from CodePlex and add the assembly in your Toolbox. I only have the .NET v2.0 copy, but mine is in: C:\Program Files\Microsoft ASP.NET\ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions\v1.0.61025\ I'd guess yours is in a similar location, but if you can't find it
