I did read through the upgrades thread stickeyed at the top of this forum, but there was no mention of the upgrade. No, create an account now. I would definately replace it.

It has a BIOS part number & date, but no version number? This is exactly what I was looking for. According to the hardware maintenance manual for the ThinkPad 600, which you can download HERE, all of those errors (even the fan error) point to a bad CMOS battery. i think a dead cmos battery will throw a 192 and that a fan error comes with that. The error 192 refers to a problem with the fan. If you wish to post a query, please do so in one of our main forum sections (here). From there, you can disconnect the battery lead and pull it free.

I don't think I can hear the fan working. useful reference If I could put a system board from a 600e in my 600, then maybe i can increse the processor speed too? It read 2.83v. Compaq A910em: T2330 dual core 1.6Ghz, X3100 384MB GPU, 160GB sata HDD, 2GB RAM Gaming rig: Asus Striker II, Coolermaster GX 750w, E4600 @ 2.4Ghz, 2.5GB RAM, Zerotherm FZ 120, 9500GT
A lot cheaper & easier to fix that replacing the system board. Booted up, set the time, cycled the power and we were good to go! Putting it back together is a bit of a cheap hack but it seems to work well enough. my review here Stay logged in Welcome to Motherboard Point Welcome to Motherboard Point a friendly motherboard forum full of tech experts..
After seeing your pix and taking your advice, I bought a battery on ebay for 2.95, no postage. If memory serves, the first time the CMOS battery in my 600 went dead, it threw a 192 for the fan. Nevertheless, as my battery was not totally dead, I could force the IBM to boot into windows from the IBM Test screen by pressing 'reboot' and then pressing F1.
